Times Tables
Times tables are an essential area of Maths for children to Master. Not only do they link to many other areas in Maths (division, fractions, percentages etc) but they are useful for everyday life- for example working out the cost of multiple items. If children know their tables 'off by heart' it frees up some thinking space for them to be more competent in other areas of Maths. Children are expected to know their Times Tables by the end of year 4- be able to answer questions in under 6 seconds. The government has introduced a test at the end of year 4 to see how pupils are doing with this.
